New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has a lot on his plate right now. He’s battling a pandemic that has been wreaking havoc on his state for the better part of 2020.
And now, he’s facing fresh allegations from a former aide for harassment. And though he has denied the accusations, some angry citizens and politicos are calling for action.
This includes Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), who has latched onto Cuomo’s harassment case — and she wants it to go a lot further.
After one of Cuomo’s aides claimed she was harassed and verbally abused earlier this week, that lit a fire under people like Stefanik.
Furthermore, members of the general public that support the growing “MeToo” movement are likely to support Stefanik: they’re already demanding answers.
And the only way to get it might involve a thorough investigation.
From Fox News:
Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) called for an investigation into sexual harassment and other claims against Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday.
Sefanik reminded us that Cuomo has called for probes into public figures in the past. Of course, being a public figure himself, he shouldn’t be exempt.
In fact, Stefanik says Cuomo has called for investigations into allegations of misconduct five times in the past.
For example, the NY Governor appointed a special prosecutor to investigate allegations of abuse against former New York Attorney General Eric Schneidermann.
“The brave women who chose to come forward deserve swift and definitive justice in this matter,” Cuomo stated at the time.
Cuomo has also publicly supported the MeToo movement.
Therefore, as far as Stefanik and others are concerned, he should be willing to let himself be investigated for the same kinds of accusations.
For his part, the Governor has flatly denied the allegations, saying they’re “just not true.” He added that he believes a woman has a right to express her opinion and concerns, but he maintains his innocence.
That isn’t good enough for Stefanik, however.
And it’s apparently not good enough for anyone else who supports the MeToo initiative, and wants these questions answered sooner rather than later.
Key Takeaways:
- Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) wants Gov. Andrew Cuomo investigated for the harassment accusations leveled against him.
- Stefanik cites Cuomo calling for five other public figures to be investigated for similar reasons.
- Cuomo denies the allegations, though he believes a woman has a right to come forward with concerns.
